In the best interests of the country, the administration is committed to seeing that the IMF program is completed, as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has emphasized.

He claimed that the initiative was extremely important and that the nation must persevere to complete it.

"We are committed to seeing the initiative through because we believe that is what is best for the country. What we're doing, he stated, is aiding in the recovery of market confidence.

Kindly call

When a delegation from Standard Chartered Bank paid him a courtesy visit at the Jubilee House in Accra, President Akufo-Addo remarked this.

As the oldest bank in, he urged cooperation from groups like the Standard Chartered Bank, claiming that "you have a clearer understanding of what goes on here."

"We want to speed up the development of our economy," stated President Akufo-Addo, "and that would be made feasible if we can find a method to finance the private sector in our nation more purposefully than it had been done in the past, especially Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana.

He claimed that the government would be considering banks like Standard Chartered and the contributions they made in this area.

President Akufo-Addo recalled the challenges the nation faced during the previous three years and added, "with a lot of patience and a lot of hard work

He claimed that the extremely difficult choices made to manage the money to support our balance of payments were starting to pay off.

He was pleased that, despite bearing the brunt of the domestic debt exchange exercise, the country's banks remained proactive and have since begun to turn a profit.

Downs and ups

Bill Winters, President and Group Chairman of Standard Chartered Bank, stated that throughout these trying times, Ghana experienced ups and downs just like the rest of the world.

But he did commend President Akufo-Addo "on the tremendous progress that you have made."

I understand that there are still challenges ahead, but I have faith that Ghana will continue to develop and move forward on the road to recovery with the help of the rest of its partners and the local business community.
