A drunk driver crushes police man to death

A police officer was killed in a collision at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region by a driver who was allegedly dozing off behind the wheel but refused to stop and take a break. 

Promotion The incident occurred on Friday, June 21, 2024, at approximately 11 p.m. at the Gomoa Mpota checkpoint. Stephen Nii Quaye, a police officer assigned to the Winneba Divisional Police Command, has been confirmed as the deceased officer. There was a blue Kia truck with the licence plate GR-6419-N driven by the driver. 

According to early accounts, the police officer had stopped another car at the checkpoint when the Kia pickup ploughed into him from behind. Before crashing into the metal at the police checkpoint and running over the policeman, the driver of the Kia truck, who was apparently asleep at the wheel, had already collided with two other cars. A petroleum tanker with registration number GY-2186-13 and a trailer with registration number GE 5468-22 are the other two vehicles involved in the collision. According to some eyewitnesses, the driver of the Kia truck acknowledged that he was asleep when the collision occurred. 

Three occupants of the Kia pickup sustained injuries, and they are now undergoing care at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.
