Abiodun, a 45-year-old housewife in Ondo town, Ondo State, Nigeria, also known by her nickname Iya Sunday, has revealed why she set her 86-year-old mother on fire.

The accused alleged the preacher informed her that her mother was the reason behind her situation.

The victim of the unsightly incident reportedly suffered burns all over her body and is presently being treated at an unnamed hospital in the town.

According to police, the elderly woman passed away in a hospital.
According to an eyewitness testimony, the suspect called her out when she visited her mother on Friday at around five in the morning, doused her in petrol and lit her on fire.

The eyewitness stated, "We don't know what happened between them before the incident."

"However, the suspect has been taken into custody by Enu-Owa division police pending additional inquiries."

Speaking, Abiodun, the suspect, claimed that she made the choice "after receiving information suggesting her mother was the cause of her situation."

"I went to my mother's house around 4 a.m. and sat outside," Abiodun admitted. I cried out to my mother from inside the home around five in the morning.

"She came out right away, not realising what was going on, so I doused her body with petrol and lit her on fire.

"It all began when I went to a preacher for prayer, and he told me that my mother was the reason behind my situation.

At first, I didn't think it was true. In addition, my mother took me to see a woman. The woman repeated herself after my mother had left.

"I burned my mother because I believed the woman and the pastor when they said that the only way I would be free from servitude is if my mother passes away."

Funmi Odunlami, the state police command's spokesperson, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the suspect had been taken into custody and that questioning had begun.

According to Odunlami, the victim passed away in the hospital a few days after being admitted.
